Signify brings environmental initiative to Clear Channel shelters

World leader in lighting, Signify (Euronext: LIGHT), has announced its involvement in a UK-wide sustainability project with Out of Home media owner Clear Channel to upgrade existing lighting in its Adshel bus shelters to new, more environmentally-friendly, LED light tubes.

The Philips T8 CorePro Universal and Philips T8 MASTER Universal, provided by Signify will help reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions by up to 65%. In addition, the new LED light tubes will have double the lifespan of the original lighting, generating less tube waste.

The nationwide initiative from Clear Channel is the first of its kind from an outdoor advertising owner, with Philips LED light tubes being initially installed in 4,000 Adshel bus shelters across the country, as part of its back-lit advertising panels. The goal of the landmark environmental project is to replace tubes across the entire Clear Channel Classic Adshel estate in the UK.

Joao Pola, CEO of Signify UK & Ireland, said: “It is great to see Clear Channel making use of our energy efficient and quick-to-fit Philips LED lighting technologies. This is a perfect application of LED, in a way that meets all of the customer’s requirements while delivering against environmental objectives. It is an example of our wider commitment to sustainability which is underlined by us being named Industry Leader in the 2018 Dow Jones Sustainability Index for two years running.”

Clear Channel CEO, Justin Cochrane, said: “The environment and sustainability are at the heart of how we operate as a business and we’re delighted to partner with Signify to upgrade the lighting in our Adshel Classic estate on this unprecedented scale. Not only will this initiative bring tangible environmental benefits, it also exemplifies one of the many ways we’re investing to make a difference in communities where we operate.”

The initial lead for the project was provided by CEF Limited – a trade channel distribution partner of Signify. Working together with Signify and CEF Limited brought obvious benefits to Clear Channel, allowing them to receive the necessary distribution to service multiple locations from a partner they knew, along with the technical support and expertise of a manufacturer.
