MP Karen Lumley visits Tamlite to see trainee scheme in action

Redditch MP, Karen Lumley, visited the headquarters of Tamlite Lighting, to learn more about the company’s manufacturing growth and its new apprenticeship scheme.

Ms Lumley toured Tamlite as part of her constituency Summer Business Tour. She was able to meet some the Tamlite team, see firsthand the extent of the lighting company’s R&D and manufacturing capabilities and learn more about how Tamlite is helping to train youngsters as part of its newly-unveiled trainee scheme.

Tamlite Lighting, the second-largest privately-owned lighting company in the UK, is one of the country’s leading manufacturers and designers of lighting. It is a key example of British industry in action, with its extensive R&D and manufacturing activities managed out of nine factories in the Midlands. Tamlite delivered over 4million products last year and, as a business, it has invested more than £4m over the last three years, undertaking the development of a number of cutting-edge lighting solutions.

The company has recently taken on its first ‘Tamlite Lighting Trainee’, as part of a new scheme to cultivate young talent. These apprenticeships are designed to give the trainees in-depth guidance about the lighting industry and hands-on training in all areas of the business.

Ms Lumley said: “It’s great to see such a high level of manufacturing innovation happening right in the middle of my constituency. It was good to see for myself just why Tamlite is leading the way in the development of cutting-edge lighting products. It is thanks to the investment in research, development and young people from companies like Tamlite that we are seeing the Midlands economy flourishing, particularly in manufacturing. The company was one of the many highlights of my Business Week.”

John Allden, General Manager of Tamlite Lighting, said: “We know that investing in people now will help Tamlite to grow further in the years to come. When it comes to business in the UK, we’re in it for the long haul.”
