Lumicom announce smashing results!

Lumicom has announced that recycling of WEEE looks set to smash through the 1000 tonnes barrier for the first time in the 12 months to March 2015 and, with the company reporting a 17% rise in the amount of EEE (Electrical & Electronic Equipment) placed on the market by its members, the LIA’s ‘in house’ Producer Compliance Scheme remains the UK’s No 1 Compliance Scheme for the Commercial Lighting Sector.

As recycling targets continue to grow, the Lumicom not-for-profit compliance scheme has seen a continuous increase in membership, month on month.

There is growing demand from end users for responsible disposal of lighting products and this has resulted in an increase in recycling volumes. For those lighting producers that are in ‘pay-as-you-go’ compliance schemes this is generating unanticipated costs and considerable disenchantment with their existing arrangement.

In contrast, Lumicom members make an upfront payment when their products are put onto the market to cover future recycling costs. This arrangement is proving very attractive as it supports accurate budgeting with no unpleasant surprises.

Also, with recycling targets set for further increases over the next few years these are likely to be policed more vigorously, so the more forward-thinking companies are acting now to ensure they have a manageable compliance strategy for the future.
