June issue – Mental Health Awareness

Welcome to the June issue of Electrical Wholesaler.

May was mental health awareness month. With the cost of living on the rise, plus materials shortages and supply chain issues adding to work stress, it is perhaps not surprising that IronmongeryDirect’s annual Mental Health in the Trades report found that four in five (82%) UK tradespeople experience mental health problems due to work.

I thought I’d take the opportunity to use my June editor’s letter to highlight the important work of the Electrical Industries Charity. The EIC offers a range of free and confidential support services for those who serve and have served within the electrical and energy sector, and who may be struggling with personal or work-related challenges, whether financial, legal, emotional or health related. Support is available in the form of telephone counselling, legal and debt advice, scholarships and financial grants.

Every month we share the story of someone who has been helped by the EIC (see page 7). The charity has been creating better workplaces and industry communities for over 100 years – we all need some extra support sometimes, and the EIC is there to provide this support when needed. And in return, the charity requires our support, from company fundraising to raising awareness to playing the powerLottery. Vist www.electricalcharity.org to find out more.

This month’s issue has a particular focus on digitalisation, with a special feature on page 20 where I spoke to a number of industry figures on the importance of search friendly product data for wholesalers and manufacturers alike.

Plus, as always, this issue includes our regular news, views, product and installation features from market-leading businesses across the sector.
