BT Cables becomes British Cables Company

BT Cables Ltd, formerly a wholly-owned subsidiary of BT Group plc, has been sold to the Wilms Group. The business will be known as British Cables Company with immediate effect.

Commenting on the development, British Cables Company Managing Director, Kevin Samuel said, “This is one of the most positive developments in the company’s long history. The Wilms Group is the biggest privately-owned cable group in Europe. It has over 70 companies, more than 7500 employees and a turnover exceeding 1.5 billion Euros. We are delighted to have become a part of such a dynamic organisation as it provides the flexibility of a single specialised business unit, combined with the strength and power of the group.

“We are in the process of developing the business and marketing strategy. It’s an exciting prospect as we will be in a position to expand our product line coverage and indeed the market segments we target. Our Blackley, Manchester facility will remain our UK headquarters. The team here has considerable experience and capability in the design and manufacture of high quality cables and I see this as being the foundation for continued business growth and the operation evolving into a world-class facility”.
