Voltimum hosts inaugural Smart Solutions Awards at UK Construction Week

Voltimum held its first Smart Solutions Awards on Wednesday 11th October at Smart Buildings 2017, part of UK Construction Week.

BBC TV presenter Steph McGovern (pictured here with the Voltimum team) hosted the event, which championed installers who have demonstrated creativity and excellence on residential and light commercial projects, as well as celebrating manufacturers and wholesalers who are helping facilitate the growth of the smart buildings market.

QMotion pipped Vent-Axia to first prize in the ‘Best Product’ category with its QiS Roller Shades. The judges were impressed by the spring-counterbalancing system to reduce power consumption as well as the product’s easy integration with Crestron, Savan, URC, RTI and other popular control platforms.

ABB’s consideration for the necessary infrastructure in delivering future solutions ensured it came out on top in the ‘Best Manufacturer’ category, beating off competition from Scolmore Group and Feilo Sylvania. The judges also recognised ABB’s commitment to training and providing CPD opportunities for installers.

The award for ‘Best Wholesaler’ went to British Electrical and Manufacturing Company (Bemco), pictured above, which the judges said had demonstrated a commitment to training customers about KNX integration and focused its trade counter displays on smart solutions, such as Philips Hue, Nest and Amazon Alexa.

Other winners included Gary McGovern from Smartcomm and Dan Milne from Wiise Smart Home Intelligence, who scooped the prizes for ‘Best Installer’ and ‘Best Newcomer Installer’ respectively.

Smartcomm also took home the ‘Best Project’ award for its work at Riverwalk House, a luxury residential development on the banks of the River Thames. This project impressed the judges because it was a high-quality installation completed within a very tight deadline that demonstrated expert integration of several systems.

Speaking after the event, Daniel Tovey, Editor at Voltimum UK, said: “With a focus on innovation and efficiency in the built environment, UK Construction Week was the ideal platform for us to host our first ever Smart Solutions Awards. We are delighted with the efforts of the organisers to help the event run smoothly and to line up Steph McGovern as our host for the evening. We have had some fantastic feedback from attendees and are looking forward to next year’s ceremony!”

UK Construction Week took place at Birmingham’s NEC on 10-12 October 2017 and is the UK’s largest construction trade event, incorporating nine different shows, including Smart Buildings, HVAC and Energy.
