SeaCity enhanced with FP Plus

Prysmian’s FP Plus Enhanced cables have been installed at Southampton’s SeaCity Museum, a 3,252sq m visitor attraction that celebrates the city’s historical relationship with the sea.

SeaCity Museum is expected to attract thousands of visitors every year and as a consequence, the fire safety systems are of paramount importance. With this in mind, FP Plus Enhanced cables have been used for the fire alarm system and disabled refuge alarms throughout the attraction.

FP Plus complies with fire alarm standard, BS 5839 enhanced grade and has received BASEC and LPCB approval.  FP Plus Enhanced cables incorporates Prysmian’s unique Insudite, which greatly reduces the risk of third party damage.

Tony McNeil, Senior Contracts Manager for Reavey & Sons who carried out the installation explains: “I have specified Prysmian FP Plus on this occasion and also in the past as they are very cost effective and always meet the specification. FP Plus Enhanced cables are the only cables on the market that can compare to the traditional MICC cable.

“By specifying Prysmian FP we are able to speed up the process due to the ease of installation as the cables come with a soft skin making them more dressable and productive to work with.”

Southampton’s Grade II Old Magistrate’s Court building was transformed into the SeaCity Museum in time to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. The scheme is part of Southampton’s Cultural Quarter, which is expected to bring in more than 2000 direct jobs and an additional £2.1m of visitor spend to the city each year.

The museum will host two permanent exhibitions and an additional temporary exhibition that will be open for one year to showcase the history of the Titanic.
