The first installation of the recently launched Domus Radial Duct System from Polypipe Ventilation has been completed by IBD Distribution.
The Domus Radial Duct System is an innovative whole house air distribution system where each room is individually connected directly to a manifold (air distribution box) by a Ø75mm flexible semi-rigid duct.
IBD Distribution recommended the Domus Radial Duct System for a two bedroom house in Ringwood, Hampshire. The house is constructed from a relatively compact timber frame with high insulation and I-Beams that restrict the use of traditional ‘branch’ ducting.
Darren Johnson, Technical Director of IBD, is very pleased with the results, he says: “After our first radial installation our initial thoughts are very positive. We can confirm at least a 50% labour saving on traditional MVHR (Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery) duct installations. We like the kit and it was very easy to install, with no tech screws, tape or silicon sealant required, apart from those used with the rigid duct located between the manifolds and HR units.”
Other benefits identified by Darren include low parts inventory and reduced storage of stock, simpler deployment logistics and overall ease of system installation requiring less technically skilled labour. Overall, the Domus Radial Duct System has provided a simple solution to what would have been a technically challenging MVHR installation and at a lower overall cost.
Darren continues: “We will most definitely be using the Domus Radial Duct System again. It is now our proposed offering for houses under 275sq m. We are already close to completion on another two bedroom property and have a four bedroom house next in line.”
The Domus Radial Duct System has been designed for use with Polypipe’s Mechanical Extraction units and HR range of Heat Recovery appliances, which are Energy Saving Trust Best Practice compliant and SAP Appendix Q rated. The system services up to 12 rooms per manifold and can be purchased as a convenient ready-made system pack with a Mechanical Extract Ventilation (MEV) or MVHR appliance included, which connects directly to the manifold; alternatively the system components can be ordered individually. An outlet plenum enables the fixing of an air valve and in addition it has the effect of reducing the air velocity on room entry, thereby eliminating draughts and noise.
