KingShield helps students shine
The KingShield T5 rotating cabinet lights were specified by the M&E consultant for Berkeley First and Imperial College London’s 566 unit Postgraduate accommodation scheme, Griffon Studios, in Battersea.
Installed by electrical contractor, Brenbar Electrical Services, the lights have been fixed to the underside of a shelf above the desk in each room, providing an intense light with no hard glare, instant start up and zero flicker, ensuring an ideal working light for students. The slimline units complement the stylish Berkeley First design of the student rooms and the rotating function ensures that students can vary the angle of the fitting in order to adjust light intensity to their personal requirements.
Following the success of the installation at Griffon Studios, Brenbar Electrical was keen to use the same product at the next Berkeley First scheme, The Costume Store in North Acton: a 730 unit undergraduate accommodation scheme with four visiting lecturer’s suites.
Marc Barwell at Brenbar Electrical says: “Originally there was another light specified but we were so impressed with how easy the KingShield lights were to install and how good they looked that we asked for the specification to be changed. We will now be fitting a further 730 T5 rotatable units at The Costume Store in exactly the same configuration.”
Phase 1 of Griffon Studios was completed in September 2011 ready for the new academic year with the remaining 114 studios in phase 2 due to be handed over to Imperial College London a year later. First occupations at The Costume Store are also expected in September 2012.

Our aim was to provide a comfortable, stylish and practical environment for their students to live. These rotatable lights mean that students can alter the lighting to suit their needs whilst being a permanent fixture within the room, avoiding damage and maintenance issues.”
